The Gig economy, light and heavy industry and the hospitality sector owes an insurmountable amount of debt to an immigrant working class Which hops between visa streams and sponsorships, indeterminately bound to providing the fruits of our lack of labour.
Without voting power and beholden to the temperamental nature of policies, national deals and questionable media intentions, we are all participating in the reduced visibility and lack of political acknowledgement or inter-personal appreciation for this working class. Here the doilie's function is multiple; it obscures, it draws attention to those obscured and it reminds us of a time slipping from view. A time of artisan and hand worked goods, an interconnected and class conscious society and slower, meaningful.
